Dynamic Motion Company Newsletter December 1, 2009 Profile: Kerry Ann King, Choreographer www.dynamicmotioncompany.org
Dear Friends of the Dynamic Motion Company, Welcome to the DynamoCo Newsletter where we will keep you up to date about the latest Dynamic Motion Company news! In our mission to pair new choreography to the chamber music repertoire, we have had the pleasure of meeting a great number of remarkable people. Among them is Kerry Ann King, who will be choreographing a piece for Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 95 “Serioso,” to be presented at our first performance.
We spoke with Kerry Ann and she shared some thoughts about her collaboration with DynamoCo: “I am very excited to be working with the Dynamic Motion Company. A while ago I was watching a science fiction show where the main characters found themselves in an alternate universe where there was no music but the people still danced. It was a brilliant sight gag, but is unfortunately nearer the truth in the world we live in now than you might realize. Today, most dance companies use recorded music for their performances, largely due to financial constraints. Even when live musicians are present, they are frequently only involved at the very end of the process, merely providing the soundtrack for the movement. At a time when direct collaborations between musicians and dancers are far and few between, DynamoCo provides a unique and exciting opportunity. I look forward to sharing our work with you!” We would like to close by acknowledging the generous support of our donors: Elizabeth Barricelli, Lynn and Stephen Bermont, Louise Bermont, Mary and Kenneth Ciani, Paul Farace, Alicia and George Furhmann, Celeste and Bob Marcus, Brian and Carol McBride, Evan and Amy Morgenstern, Thelma Palmerio, Robert Saia, and Robin and Tom Wells. Thank you! Stay tuned for the official announcement of Dynamic Motion Company’s opening night performance. Until next time, DynamoCo Cynthia Marcus Smith and Ann Marie Bermont Founders/Directors www.dynamicmotioncompany.org

Dear Friends of the Dynamic Motion Company, Thanks to all of you who attended our first performance on Saturday, February 27th at the Alvin Ailey studios. We had a great sold out audience of 130 people, with some familiar faces as well as some new ones. We would like to thank our generous donors for helping to make Dynamic Motion Company a reality, and also give a special thanks again to our choreographers, dancers, musicians, and artists. The evening couldn't have happened without the creative work of Kerry Ann King, Keisha Bolden, Han Mori Mattioli, Liz Sargent, Carole Ashley, Felicia Terlecki, Joshua Weidenmiller, Casee Hogg, Flannery Houston, Simone Sobers, Jema Taylor, Nikki Federman, and Zsaz Rutkowski. So what is next for DynamoCo? Currently we are working to develop new works for upcoming performaces as well as looking for new venues for a repeat performance of the Beethoven/Haydn program. We are also applying to many area residencies and summer programs to help us grow as an organization. The Dynamic Motion Company String Quartet is performing at a New York Composer's Circle Concert on Tuesday, April 27 at St. Peter's Church at the Citigroup Center.
